L-High Street/Windmill Lane/Shireland Road/Waterloo Road/Cape Hill Junction
Problems
The Cape Hill junction suffers from congestion throughout the day. The Cape Hill approach is particularly
congested in the evening peak hours. The High Street approach is congested in both the morning and evening but the
morning queues are worse. The Route 87 travels across the junction using the High Street and Cape Hill approaches.
Improvements to the junction are intended to improve movements across the junction along the Route 87.
Proposals
- Potential improvements to the High Street/Cape Hill junction to improve operation of the signals and reduce
delays, particularly along the Route 87.
- Rationalise westbound parking on the Cape Hill approach to the junction.
- Bus stop upgrades to Bus Showcase standard to improve access at all bus stops.
Possible benefits
- Improved traffic flow as a result of signal timing review and rationalisation of parking.
- Improved access to bus stops.
