B-Dudley Port-Sedgley Road East Junction

Problems

The Dudley Port Junction is an area that suffers heavy congestion in the morning and evening peak hours. Pedestrian crossing facilities are inadequate and cars park along both arms of the Sedgley Road East contributing to delay along this section for both buses and general traffic.

Proposals

  • The introduction of dedicated parking lay-bys on Sedgley Road East on both sides of the junction.
  • Formalise an area of parking to the west of the junction to provide formal offstreet parking.
  • A parking lay-by to be provided to the least of the junction, partly in the footway, to provide further parking.
  • Red route controls through the junction to control parking on-street.
  • Bus stop upgrades to Bus Showcase standard to improve access to buses.
  • Improved cycle facilities through the provision of advanced cycle stop lines.
  • High friction surfacing on approaches to the junction.
  • Provide controlled crossing facilities for pedestrians.

Possible benefits

  • Improved pedestrian facilities to provide safer crossing points.
  • Improved traffic flow.
  • Improved parking management and formalised parking facilities off-street.
  • Improved safety for cyclists.

Design Changes Since Consultation

Since the Consultation in 2008 a number of revisions have been made to the proposals for the corridor. The following design changes have been made to this junction:
  1. Design Change 006 - At the junction of Sedgley Road East and Dudley Port the Pedestrian Refuge Layouts are to be revised to provide a Reverse stagger. A bus lane has also been shown on the northbound exit from the junction.
